5 Things to Consider When Ordering Plastic ID Cards

Plastic cards aren't just for ID badges anymore. From loyalty cards to access control, the applications are endless. Here are five things we always recommend our clients consider before ordering.

1. Material Thickness

Standard credit-card thickness (0.76mm) is the most common, but thinner options work well for temporary passes or event badges. Thicker cards feel more premium and last longer in wallets.

2. Smart Features

QR codes, NFC chips, magnetic stripes, or barcodes — each adds functionality. Think about what your card needs to do beyond identify someone.

3. Print Quality

Full-colour offset printing gives you the best results for bulk orders. For smaller runs with variable data (names, photos), digital printing is more practical.

4. Eco Alternatives

Recycled PVC and bio-degradable PLA cards are now available. They perform identically to standard PVC but with a much smaller environmental footprint.

5. Turnaround Time

Standard production is 5-7 working days, but we can fast-track to 3 days for urgent orders. Plan ahead where possible — rush jobs cost more and limit your proofing time.
