Lanyards we have printed

A few of the organisations whose lanyards have come off our presses. Hover or tap any one for a closer look.

20mm dye-sub lanyards. The one most people order.

The webbing starts out white. We print right into the fibre, both sides, in whatever colours the artwork has. Logos, a repeating pattern, a gradient, a photo if you insist. There is no extra charge for a second colour or a fifth one.

A breakaway is fitted on every lanyard. It is the bit at the back of the neck that pulls apart if the lanyard gets caught in something, and we do not sell them without it. The clip on the front is a trigger clip unless you ask for something else: a retractable reel, a detachable buckle, a plastic J-hook for a paper pass. Say what your holders are and we will match the fitting.

Lead time: about a week once you approve the proof. A new design usually needs a day or two of artwork first.

Things that catch people out

We check all of these at the proof stage, so none of them will surprise you after the run. But it saves a round of emails if you know them going in.

  • Tiny text. Anything under about 4mm tall goes soft on webbing. Web addresses in 6pt are the usual offender.
  • Orange next to white can bleed a little at the edge. It is a property of the dye, not a printing error, and we will tell you if your artwork has the combination.
  • A pale front with a dark back. The webbing is not fully opaque, so a black reverse can ghost through a white face. Keep both sides in the same family of tones, or put the pattern on both.
  • Front and back are printed as two passes. If your design needs a logo to sit in exactly the same spot on each side, that is called side-matching and it costs about 30% more because of the registration work. A repeating pattern gets you the same effect for nothing, which is why we suggest it so often.
  • Repeating patterns, generally, are the design that looks best on a lanyard. A logo every 8cm reads as a brand from across a room. One logo at the bottom reads as a plain strap.

Other ways to make a lanyard

Screen printed, one to three colours

Ink on the surface rather than dye in the fibre. Very sharp edges, very hard-wearing, and the right choice for a logo that has to stay crisp after two years on a staff badge. Three weeks.

Woven

The logo is woven into the strap as thread. Heavier in the hand and it looks it. Four weeks, and worth it for the pass somebody wears every day.

Recycled and low-impact

rPET webbing is made from bottles and prints exactly like standard dye-sub; most people cannot tell them apart, and the lead time is the same. Bamboo and cork are softer and matte. Waterproof paper is the one for a single-day event where the lanyards are going in the recycling at the end. Ask which suits the job and we will say.

Widths

20mm is the standard and the one on the price table. We can go down to 10mm for a slim lanyard or up to 30mm when there is a lot of artwork to carry.

Questions we get asked

How quickly can I get them?

About a week from the day you approve the proof. A reorder is quicker than that because the artwork already exists. A brand new design is a day or two slower while we sort the artwork with you. Up against a date? Say so. Rush production in 3–4 working days is often possible and we confirm it for your job before you pay, not after.

Do I see a proof before you print?

Always. A digital proof comes back within a few hours of your artwork arriving and nothing is printed until you have approved it. New design? We print one lanyard and photograph it for you, so you have seen the real colour on the real webbing before we run the lot.

My logo file is not print-ready. Is that a problem?

Usually not. Send what you have, even if it is a screenshot of the letterhead. We will tell you straight whether it will print well, redraw it if it will not, and send you two or three proof options rather than one take-it-or-leave-it version.

Is there a setup or origination fee?

No. The per-lanyard price is the price for one design. No setup charge, no plate charge, no origination fee. Several different designs in one order are priced as separate jobs, because each one is.

What is the minimum order?

30. Bear in mind the per-lanyard price roughly halves between 30 and 100, so a small order is often worth rounding up. Most conference orders land somewhere between 100 and 1,000. Above 3,000 we quote each job on its own.

Is delivery included?

No, it is a separate line, and it is on the quote before you approve anything. Roughly €12.50 per 1,000 lanyards locally in Dublin; €35 to €50 by courier further out, depending on how far.

Can I get a recycled or more sustainable lanyard?

Yes. rPET webbing is made from old bottles and prints exactly like the standard lanyard. It costs a little more per lanyard and most people cannot tell the difference in the hand. For a one-day event where the lanyards are going in the recycling at five o'clock, there is a recycled paper lanyard as well. Ask and we will price both next to the standard one.

Can you match our exact brand colour?

Close, yes. Dye-sub is full colour so most brand colours come out within a shade, and the photographed sample lets you check before the run. If it has to be an exact Pantone, say so when you ask for the price. That is a different process and it costs more, so it is better known at the start.
